We are expanding our goat herd and sheep flock through selective on-farm breeding. Our goats are a combination of Boer and Kiko, two superb meat breeds that produce strong, healthy offspring with tender meat. Our sheep are Katahdin, a meat breed hailing from Maine that has hair rather than wool and sheds its coat naturally. All goats and sheep are rotated on pasture for most of the year, where they get 100% of their nutrition from the grass. In the winter they are brought into a dry, warm hoop house and are fed hay grown here at the farm.
Goat is the most commonly consumed red meat in the world, due in part to their small size and easy management. As long as shelter is provided and fencing is adequate, goats are content to browse weeds, shrubs, trees, and blackberry bushes, thorns and all! The animals are slaughtered at nine to ten months of age, resulting in tender meat with subtle flavor. We recommend roasting the meat or adding it to a delicious curry for an ethnic twist on what's rapidly becoming a new American staple.
Goats and lambs are slaughtered in the late fall. Advanced reservations are required.
